PHILADELPHIA - Penn opens the 2009-10 swimming season on Friday when the men play host to Columbia in a dual meet set to begin at 5 p.m.
The Quakers return a wealth of talent from a season ago. Last year the men broke ten school records, four in relays and six individual. Among the record breakers was freshman Brendan McHugh, who was named first-team All-Ivy for his performance in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke. The second year also set the school record in the 200 IM as well.
Senior Larkin Macdonald also had a successful season during the 2008-09 campaign, breaking Bill Thompson's 16-year-old school record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:47:81, beating the previous record by nearly a second and a half. Fellow classmate James Fee broke two records last year, one in the 500 free and the other in the 1650.
