Swimming's Peterson Named ECAC Rookie of the Week

DANBURY, Conn. -- The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its Men's Swimmers and Divers of the Week (for the week ending January 18, 2015) on Wednesday afternoon and University of Pennsylvania freshman Alex Peterson was named the South Division Rookie of the Week. Peterson, earning the recognition for the first time of his collegiate career, received the honor for finishing second in three events during this past weekend’s tri-meet with Brown and Harvard.

At the tri-meet with the Bears and Crimson in Providence, R.I., the California native took second place in three events – the 1000 free, 500 free, 400 IM. Peterson finished behind teammate Chris Swanson in both distance events, completing the 1000 free in 9:21.85 and the 500 free in 4:35.22. In the 400 IM, he finished the race in 3:58.49 and touched the wall just 0.57 of a second after Harvard’s Christian Carbone.

Peterson and the rest of the Quakers will return home this weekend to host Delaware in their final meet in Sheerr Pool this season. The Red and Blue will celebrate senior day and action is set to begin at noon.
