LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Senior Whitney Tagliavini and junior Megan VanBuskirk won the long jump and triple jump, respectively, for the University of Pennsylvania women's track and field team Saturday at the Bison Opener.
Tagliavini was tops in the long jump with her leap of 5.65 meters (18 feet, 6 1/4 inches). Her effort was more than a half a foot longer than the nearest competitor. Kathryn Gevitz was third in the event with a jump of 5.39 meters (17-08.25 ft.).
VanBuskirk edged freshman teammate Catherine Okoukoni in the triple jump. VanBuskirk’s best jump measured 11.28 meters (37-00.25 ft.), while Okoukoni topped out at 11.18 meters (36-08.25 ft.).
Kristen Judge was the top Quaker in the high jump. She placed second, clearing the bar at 1.60 meters (5-03 ft.).
Leah Brown, with a time of 7.76, was fourth in the 60-meter dash, while Hannah Dow also placed fourth as she finished the 1,000-meter run at 3:16.97. In the seldom run, 300-meter run, Paige Madison placed second at 41.74.
The road to the NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas, will continue on Jan. 17 for the Quakers. The first meet of the New Year will be in State College, Pa., with the Penn State Open.
