Philadelphia, Pa. -- The Philadelphia Big 5 wants to Slam Dunk hunger this holiday season. The Philadelphia Big 5, in partnership with the Greater Philadelphia Food Bank, will collect nonperishable food items at designated Quakers’ home basketball games during the month of November. In addition, collections will be taken during the Big 5 Classic at the Palestra on Dec. 4.
With basketball and the Big 5 season quickly approaching, fans can show their pride and generosity by donating canned goods in the food bank collection bins during designated University of Pennsylvania home games.
The Greater Philadelphia Food Bank collection bins will bein The Palestraon Nov. 23for a doubleheader. The women’s team will take on the LaSalle Explorers at 5:45 p.m. and will be followed by the men’s team facing off against the Drexel Dragons.
In the third year of the Big 5 Slam Dunks Hunger campaign, more than 6,000 pounds of food were collected to help feed the needy around the area. Fans of the Quakers can help this year’s campaign be an even greater success.
The Greater Philadelphia Food Bank distributes food donations to nearly 800 local nonprofit organizations dedicated to fighting hunger, helping to feed 57,000 people each week through out Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.
