The Quakers Shine in Florida


BOCA RATON, Fla. – The University of Pennsylvania men’s swimming and diving team wontwo of itsthreemeets on Friday at Florida Atlantic University. The Quakers picked up a 173.50 – 29.50 victory over the College of Charleston and a 182.00 – 23.00 win over Transylvania. Penn's only loss came against Florida Atlantic 133.00 - 71.00. The meet was a part of the Red and Blue’s11 day training trip at Florida Atlantic.

Patrick Gallagher (1:46.14) picked up Penn’s first win of the day in the 200-yard freestyle. Devon Carr (1:51.79) placed sixth, while Robert Casey (1:52.68) and Steve Martucci (1:53.28) finished eighth and ninth. The Quakers best showing came in the 200-yard backstroke as they took the top four spots. Yuchi Zhang (2:09.58) took the top spot followed by Jon Kaufman (2:18.79), Alex Silvester (2:19.73) and Chaz Maul (2:30.39).

The Red and Blue closed out the day by winning the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:21.71. Penn also had teams place third and fourth in the 400-yard freestyle.

The Quakers will train for two more days then head back north for the start of the Spring Semester. Penn will travel to Brown on Saturday, Jan. 14 for a noon start.
