BOCA RATON, Fla. The University of Pennsylvania women’s swimming and diving team won three of its four meets on Friday at Florida Atlantic University. The Quakers picked three wins on the day. They picked up a 148.00 57.00 victory over the College of Charleston, 115.00 90.00 over Illinois State and 195.00 10.00 over Transylvania. Their only loss was to Florida Atlantic, 141.00 - 63.00. The meet was a part of the Red and Blue’s eleven day training trip at Florida Atlantic.
Although Penn did not have any individual winners they had plenty of top-10 finishes and finished first in the 400-yard freestyle. Margot Newcomer (1:58.88) placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle. Lauren Bergstrom (2:00.20) and Jessica Aiello (2:00.70) finished seventh and eighth. Nicole Malgeri (2:03.43) placed 10th. Megan Carlin (2:17.17) and Erica Gentilucci (2:18.56) finished fifth and seventh in the 200-yard IM.
The Quakers strongest showing came in the 200-yard backstroke, 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard breastroke. The Red and Blue placed four in the top-10 in each event. Penn capped off the day by winning the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:43.36. The Quakers had three other teams place in the top-10 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The Quakers will train for two more days then head back north for the start of the Spring Semester. Penn will travel to Brown on Saturday, Jan. 14 for a noon start.
