Thomas Brandt Named Capital One Academic All-District

CoSIDA Release

Senior Thomas Brandt was named Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District on Friday, one of four defenders from District 2 to receive the honor.

A two-year captain for the Quakers, Brandt has appeared in 55 matches over his career, making 51 starts. This season, he has two goals - both of which came in a 3-2 win at Columbia on Oct. 8. For his career, he has eight goals and 17 points.

An economics major from Palmyra, Pa., Brandt was a Lowe's Senior CLASS Award nominee earlier this fall and was on the preseason Hermann Award watch list. In 2010, he was named first-team All-Ivy and first-team NSCAA All-Region in addition to earning ECAC All-Start honors. His off the field work earned him 2010 Academic All-Ivy honors and 2010 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area distinction.

Brandt is the fourth Penn player in the past four seasons to be named CoSIDA Academic All-District, joining Steven Schlaefer (2010), Alex Takakuwa (2009) and Omid Shokoufandeh. Brandt is now up for Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, with voting to begin this week by the nation's Sports Information Directors. The recipients will be announced Thursday, Dec. 1.

The Quakers round out their 2011 schedule on Saturday at Harvard with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
