CollegeSoccerNews.Com's Preseason All-American Teams
PHILADELPHIA - Senior Thomas Brandt did it all in his junior season for the Quakers, earning first-team All-Ivy honors while also finishing the season as a first-team NSCAA All-Region honoree after scoring five goals while playing a key role in Penn's stingy defense. The Palmyra, Pa. native will look to carry on that stellar play in his final campaign and pundits around the country see no reason the two-time captain will do so as CollegeSoccerNews.com selected Brandt as a second-team Preseason All-American.
One of two Ivy League players to make CSN.com's team (Princeton's Antoine Hoppenot was a first team selection), Brandt was one of seven defenders to be chosen by CSN.com's panel and was one of 12 seniors to make the squad which features 22 total players.
Brandt has appeared in 39 career games over his three seasons, making 35 starts. After seeing time in just three games in his freshman season, Brandt has rarely been off the field for Rudy Fuller's club in the time since. In 2009, Brandt played in all 17 matches with 16 starts and was named a Philadelphia Soccer Six All-Star. Last season, he started all 19 matches and tied for second on the team with his five scores. Two of his goals were game-winners, including an overtime strike against George Mason. At the end of the season, Brandt was named an ECAC All-Star in addition to his All-Ivy and All-Region honors. Off the field, Brandt's work in the classroom earned him Academic All-Ivy and Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area honors.
The Red and Blue, led by their 2011 captain Thomas Brandt, start their 2011 season on Sept. 2 at Philadelphia Soccer Six rival La Salle.
