Three Firsts, Four Seconds For Women's Rowing

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania women’s rowing team earned three gold medals and four silver medals at the Head of the Schuylkill on Saturday.

Penn won gold in the Club 8+, the Championship 4+, and the Novice 4+; the silvers came in the Championship 8+, the Club 8+, the Championship 4+, and the Novice 8+.

In the Championship 8+, Penn’s A boat was second in 14:43.56 which was a little more than nine seconds behind Fordham. Penn’s B boat was eighth in 15:15.35, while the Quakers’ C boat was 15th in 15:40.39. A total of 19 boats competed in the division.

In the Women’s Club 8+ division, Penn’s B boat earned top honors among 47 boats with a time of 14:52.29 while the Quakers’ A boat was second in 14:56.97. Both boats were well ahead of third-place Fordham, which clocked in at 15:22.06. Penn’s C boat was 22nd in the division, in 16:17.31.

In the Championship 4+, Penn’s A and B boats went first and second, respectively, in 15:24.90 and 15:48.35. That was well ahead of the other 53 boats in the division.

In the Novice 8+, Penn clocked 15:17.47 and was second among 44 boats behind only UConn (15:16.42). In the Novice 4+, the Quakers were fastest among 25 boats with a time of 16:18.95; that was nearly 47 seconds ahead of second-place Temple.

Penn returns to action again next Sunday, competing in the Princeton Chase.
