Three Grapplers Earn Seeds at NCAA Championships

Oklahoma City, Okla. - Three Quakers are seeded for NCAA Wrestling Championships. Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Champions Matt Valenti and Matt Dragon and runner-up Matt Herrington all earned seeds for the 2006 NCAA Championships beginning tomorrow.

Valenti is seeded sixth at 133 pounds. The junior from Newton, N.J. is 31-2 on the season and will face Brandon Strong of Air Force in his first match. Valenti placed fifth two years ago at 125 pounds and earned All-America honors. He earned his 100th career win in the EIWA finals two weeks ago with a 4-2 win over Harvard’s Robbie Preston.

Dragon and Herrington are both seeded 12th in their respective weight classes. Dragon, at 149 pounds, will face Jeff Owens of Cal Poly in his first match. Dragon is 29-6 on the season. Herrington is 17-5 at 174 pounds. Herrington will face Alex Maciag of North Carolina in his first match-up. The two met on Jan. 21 in Chapel Hill, N.C. with Herrington earning an 11-3 major decision.

Freshman Cesar Grajales and seniors Mike Silengo will also compete in the National Championships. Grajales will face Cassio Pero of Illinois in a pigtail match at 141 pounds. Silengo will face defending National Champion Joe Dubuque of Indiana in his first match at 125 pounds. The two met at the Virginia Duals in January. Dubuque won that match 12-10 in sudden victory. Wiles, who is 27-10 on the season at 184 pounds, will face No. 11 seed Alex Camargo of Kent State in a pigtail match.
