Philadelphia - Three members of the University of Pennsylvania field hockey team were named to the 2005 City 6 All-Star team. Lea Salese earned her third All-Philadlephia honor, while Melissa Black was being honored for the second time. Senior Cara Calahan earned her first nod.
Salese was named second-teamDartfish/NFHCA All-American by the National Field Hockey Coaches Associationlastmonth as well as first-team All-Mid Atlantic and first-team All-Ivy League. She scored eight goals and had three assists for the Red and Blue this season. She led the Ancient Eight in game-winning goals with five. The Livingston, N.J. native is a three-time All-Ivy League selection and two-time first-team recipient. She received first-team 2005 Dartfish/NFHCA All-Regional honors in 2004 and 2005. She is also a 2005 Academic All-Ivy recipient. Salese started in all 69 games in her career and tallied 16 career goals, 15 assists and 47 points. Last year she was an unanimous All-Philadelphia selection and received City 6 Most Valuable Player award.
Melissa Black was named to the All-Philadelphia team as a freshman as well as earned second-team All-Ivy Leauge and Rookie of the Year honors. Black was a key member of the Penn defense that posted six shutouts.
Cara Calahan earned honorable mention All-Ivy League for the first time in 2005 as well. The Doylestown, Pa. native was third on the team in scoring with five goals and four assists.
