PHILADELPHIA – The Ivy League announced the first baseball Player of the Week on Wednesday, and Penn’s Tom Grandieri was honored for his work at the plate in Penn’s season-opening split against Georgetown last weekend.
Grandieri belted two home runs over the two games – matching his career-high set last season. He connected for a solo homer in game one and added a two-run shot in game two. Over the course of the two games, he hit .429 with four runs batted in.
Ivy League honors are familiar for the Grandieri family. Tommy’s older brother, Brian, was named second-team All-Ivy in basketball in 2007 and 2008 for the Quakers. The elder Grandieri was also named basketball Player of the Week on Jan. 16, 2007.
