Total Performance Day One: Women Swimming

GAMBIER, Ohio – At the conclusion of day one of the Total Performance Invitational hosted by Kenyon College, the University of Pennsylvania women swimming team leads with 276.5 points, after just two events. Kenyon, in second place, trails the Quakers by 68.5, with 208 points.

In the first event, the 800 free relay, Johns Hopkins’ “A” team was the fastest in the pool with a time of 7:22.44. The Red and Blue “A” team -- senior Shelby Fortin, sophomore Emma Siewert, sophomore Annie McCotter, senior Kristi Edelson – took second place with a time of 7:28.51. Right behind the “A” team was the Penn “B” team – freshman Rochelle Dong, sophomore Lauren Church, freshman Ellie Grimes, and sophomore Morgan Scott -- at 7:29.33.

The third event, second for the women, was the 1650 free. Fortin’s pool and meet record from last year (16:32.87) would remain as first place, Edelson, came in at 16:43.08. Even though Edelson did not break the record, she finished 10 second ahead of second place Mariah Williamson from Kenyon (16:53.61).

Also finishing in the top 10 for the Red and Blue in the 1650 free was Fortin (5th, 17:02.23), McCotter (6, 17:08.03), sophomore Megan Alexander (8, 17:13.28), and freshman Madeleine Jardeleza (9, 17:15.49).

Action resumes tomorrow morning with preliminary races beginning at 9:30 a.m. Diving Sessions will begin at 1pm and tomorrow's championship and consolation finals will begin at 5:30 p.m.
