Towson Too Much for Penn

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania volleyball team fell to Towson 3-0 in its finalmatch of the Sheraton Invitational. Game scores were 30-25, 30-19, 30-22.

The Tiger attack was too much for the Quakers, who could not stop April Hoffman and Maddie Haseltine who combined for 24 kills.

Game Onewas back and forth-- there were 12 ties and five lead changes in the game. Penn was within striking distance, trailing just 20-18, but then the Tigers reeled of five straight points. The Quakers would cut the deficit to three but that was as close as they got.Towson had four service aces, two apiece for Hoffman and Kimberly Snider.

The Quakers played from behind in Game Two despite having more kills than Towson. Laura Black led the Red and Blue with five kills in the game.Penn then led early in Game Three, but a 7-0 run by Towson put the Quakers down 10-4, which was a big enough lead for the Tigers to preserve.

Linda Zhang was Penn's all-tournament selection.

Penn will be back in action next when they open Ivy League play at Princeton on Sept. 30 at Princeton at 7 p.m.
