TAMPA, Fla. – With the indoor track and field season officially in the books, the University of Pennsylvania sent three throwers to kick off the outdoor season at the South Florida Invitational over the weekend. Kelsey Hay, Sam Mattis and Noah Kennedy-White each put together solid debuts to 2016.
Mattis, who won the 2015 NCAA National Championship in the discus, picked up right where he left off last season. The senior tossed his way to the title on Saturday with a throw of 195’ 1’’.
Kennedy-White was also solid in the discus, placing fourth with a mark of 167’1’’.
Hay joined Mattis on the podium, picking up the win in the women’s javelin. The 2015 All-American posted a season-opening mark of 156’ 7” to take the title.
Penn’s full contingent will begin the outdoor season next weekend. The Quakers will host the Philadelphia College Classic at Franklin Field on Saturday, It will be the first of two-consecutive home meets for the Red and Blue.
