Track & Field Begins 2015 at Angry Birds Invite

PHILADELPHIA - Track and field season begins in earnest this weekend as the Penn men's and women's teams head to the Angry Birds Invitational on Saturday at Lehigh's Rauch Fieldhouse.

Saturday's meet, which also features Monmouth, Winthrop and the host Mountain Hawks, begins at 10 a.m. with several field events. The track will host the women's 5,000 meters at 11 a.m. to start. The men's 4x400-meter relay will conclude the meet at approximately 3:55 p.m.

The 2014-15 season officially began on Dec. 6, but now the Quakers will compete every weekend until a brief break before the NCAA Outdoor NCAA Championships in late May.

In that first meet -- also at Rauch Fieldhouse -- three freshmen earned their way into the school's all-time top 10 lists in their collegiate debut. Two freshmen women broke the facility record in the 60 meters and moved into the school's all-time top 10 in their first collegiate race.Taylor McCorklewon the event with a new Rauch Fieldhouse record time of 7.60 -- the second-fastest finish in school history and fastest by a Penn athlete since Leah Brown in 2012.Barbara Bineywas second in the event with the sixth-fastest time in program history at 7.69.

Last year at the Angry Birds Invitational,a few Quakers earned a spot atop the podium. The Red and Blue swept the high jump betweenMaalik ReynoldsandNoel Jancewicz.Lydia Aliwon the women's 200 meters and the men's 4x400-meter relay also posted a victory.
