Track & Field Goes Coast-to-Coast

PHILADELPHIA - There will be members of the University of Pennsylvania track and field teams from coast-to-coast this weekend. The Red and Blue stripes will be represented at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., the Flordia Relays in Gainsville, Fla., and the Sam Howell Invitational in Princeton, N.J.

Several distance runners will compete for Penn at the Stanford Invitational which is considered one of the top meet's for distance competition this weekend, while others will face some of the nation's best at the Florida Relays. The remaining members of the Red and Blue will compete at the meet in Princeton.

Last week, the Quakers hadsix event winners at the Maryland Invitational, and junior Sam Mattis finished third in the men's discus at the Texas Relays.The Penn men boasted three winners in the field events and a relay victory, while freshman Candace Taylor won the women's 400 meters, Molly Minnig won the women's pole vault and Kelsey Hay was tops in the javelin.

Last year at the Sam Howell Invitational,Jim Tully, Mattisand the men's 4x400-meter relay all posted victories for the Quakers, whileLydia Alijumped into the school's all-time top 10 in two events. At the meet,Mattis became the first man in school history to eclipse 60 meters.
