University of Pennsylvania women's track senior Sam Crook earned an at-large bit to compete at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the pole vault. Crook is the first women's field athlete to compete at the NCAA Championships since Julie Siebert-Johnson participated in the javelin in 2003.
Crook, the school record holder in the event finished in a three-way tie for seventh at the NCAA East Regional this past weekend. At the ECAC Championshiops on May 13, the Randolph, N.J. native cleared 4.0m (13'1) to win theevent and eventually secure her spot at the NCAA Championships. She will one of 28 student-athletes competing in the event.
Two members of the men's track and field team will also compete in Sacramento next weekend, Courtney Jaworski and Kyle Calvo will compete in the 800m and long jump, respectively. The Championships will be held June 8-11 at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex.
