Turudic Advances to Round of 32 at ITA Regionals

ITHACA, N.Y. - Ivan Turudic remains the last hope for the men's tennis team at the ITA Northeast Regionals, hosted by Cornell. The sophomore got past Francis Bertrand of Stony Brook on Saturday with relatively few problems, 6-2 and 6-4. Sam Fleck of Cornell is his opponent in the third round on Sunday.

The rest of the singles draw didn't go quite as smoothly. Nikola Kocovic fell to #13 Nikita Fomin of Stony Brook 3-6, 3-6, and Phil Law was able to nab a set off the #3 seed, Akash Muppidi of Boston College, but couldn't maintain the momentum, falling 7-6(4), 1-6, 2-6.

On the doubles side, Turudic and Zach Katz lost 8-6 to the Fairleigh Dickinson team of Arvis Berzins and Ibrahim Shams, ensuring no Penn team advanced to the Round of 16 in that bracket. The two were quarterfinalists a year ago as freshmen in the event.
