Day Two Recap

PHILADELPHIA
– After a successful first two days at the Penn Relays, the University of Pennsylvania women's track and field team had two more relay teams left on the final day of competition Saturday at Franklin Field. With 47, 904 attending Championship Saturday, the three day attendance total for the 115th running of the world's largest track meet was 111,720 - the fifth-highest attendance of all-time.

Penn reached the ECAC Final in the 1,600-meter relay with a season-best performance on Friday. They crushed that time on Saturday with a sixth-place finish of 3:43.48. The effort from junior Jamie Massarelli on the lead leg, junior Kelly Allred on the second 400 meters, freshman Victoria Strickland running the third leg and junior Laura McDaniel at anchor, put the relay into Penn's all-time record book. That group now stands as the fourth fastest 1,600-meter relay in team history. It was the fifth relay team in the last three days for the Quakers to reach the all-time top-five list.

In the 3,200-meter relay, the Quakers nearly broke the nine-minute barrier as they ran to afinish of 9:04.50 to place in the top half of the field. The team of senior Kinjal Parikh, junior Kimberly Shooshan, freshman Allie Tetreault and senior Leah Brogan placed 12th out of the 29 competing relay teams.

The Quakers have a weekend off next week to prepare for the Heptagonal Championships. It will be the team's first weekend off since the start of the outdoor season on March 20. Penn will host the 2009 Heptagonals at Franklin Field on May 9-10.
