Two Named All-Ivy in Baseball

PHILADELPHIA – The Ivy League announced the selections to the 2008 All-Ivy baseball team on Friday and Penn was represented by two players.

Freshman Dan Williams was named second-team All-Ivy at shortstop while his double play partner Steve Gable was named honorable mention All-Ivy at second base.

Williams started all 39 games for the Red and Blue in his rookie campaign and finished the season with a .290 batting average. His 40 hits were second on the team – trailing only Gable who had 55. He connected for three homers, including two in back-to-back games against Cornell April 12-13.

Joining Williams on the All-Ivy team is Gable. The sophomore second baseman also started all 39 games for W. Joseph Blood Head Coach of Baseball John Cole and led the team in batting average at .372. He also led the Quakers in hits (55), runs (25) and runs batted in (33). In the middle of the season, he put together a 19-game hitting streak.
