PHILADELPHIASophomore Kevin Unger of the Penn men’s soccer team earned hisfirst career Philadelphia Soccer Seven Player of the Week honor, Monday.
Unger scored his second goal of the season with a dramatic double overtime goal (107:21) to keep Penn undefeated in the Ivy League standings. The Quakers' Saturday match-up with Columbia was closely matched, but Unger's attack was enough to break through the Columbia defense.
Incidentally, Penn and Columbia played to overtime last season as well with the Quakers’ other Wisconsin recruit (Mike Klein) scoring the match-winner in the first overtime of that contest.
This is Penn’s third PS7 honor this season. Klein earned back-to-back honors, Sept. 18-25. Unger was also named to the Ivy League Honor Roll this week.
Unger and the Quakers (7-2-1, 3-0-0 Ivy) close out their three-match homestand with a non-league meeting against Rutgers Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
