PHILADELPHIA - Three days after capturing the NCAA national championship at 133 lbs., junior Matt Valenti has been named the EIWA Wrestler of the Year by a vote of the Association's head coaches.
Valenti had an historic season, compiling a 36-2 record en route to becominganEIWA champion and Penn's third NCAA champion. He is the first Quaker wrestler to break the 100-win mark inhis junior year, and his 36 wins breaks his own school record. The two-time All-American ended his season on a 24-match winning streak.
Valenti helped Penn finish 12th at the NCAA Championships, its best finish since 2002.
