For the second time in two years, Vince Voiro heard his named called during the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, this time from the Oakland Athletics in the 15th Round.

"It is a great honor to be drafted again," Voiro said on Tuesday night after receiving the call. "I can look back now and confirm that returning for my senior season was the right move as I was able to not only enjoy one more go with my Penn teammates but hone my skills which led to this improved draft position. I am excited to move on to professional baseball with the Athletics and get my career started."

The A's tabbed Voiro, a Cherry Hill, N.J. native, with the 469th overall selection, a big jump from his 47th Round selection by the San Diego Padres (1,433 overall) in the 2011 Draft. Voiro made the decision not to sign with the Padres at the end of last summer, choosing to return to University City with eyes on improving his draft stock. That decision paid off to the tune of a 2.45 ERA and a 5-3 record over eight starts for the Red and Blue. Voiro led the Quakers in wins, ERA, innings (66.0), and strikeouts (59) on his way to honorable mention All-Ivy status.

"This is a well-deserved honor once again for Vince," W. Joseph Blood Head Coach of Baseball John Cole said. "It is a tribute to how hard he has worked and the strides he has made on the mound over his whole career. He was a leader for us and the ace of our staff, he is a complete pitcher now and that is reflected in the tremendous round advancement he made from 2011 to 2012. We wish him all the best in his new career."

Voiro is the ninth Penn selection by a Major League Baseball organization since 1991, and he becomes the first player since Ben Krantz (2003) to be chosen as high as the 15th Round. Last season, in addition to Voiro's selection by the Padres, Paul Cusick was chosen by the Philadelphia Phillies (29th Round) - making this the first time since 2003-04 that Penn has had players chosen in consecutive MLB First-Year Player Drafts.
