Penn-Delaware Live Stats
PHILADELPHIA – With Ivy League play set to begin on Saturday, the University of Pennsylvania volleyball team will face one final non-conference test on Tuesday night at Delaware. First serve between the Quakers and Blue Hens is set for 7 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.
*The Quakers are coming off a 1-2 showing at the Big 5 Tournament over the weekend. Penn put together a 3-0 sweep of La Salle on Friday night before dropping 3-0 matches to Temple and Villanova on Saturday.
*Freshman Caroline Furrer led the offense against the Explorers, tallying a match-high 12 kills. She also added seven digs and a pair of block assists. Furrer totaled a team-best 10 kills in the two matches on Saturday.
*Sophomore Courtney Quinn joined Furrer in double figures in the La Salle win, registering her fourth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 12 digs. She added nine put-aways and 13 digs on Saturday. Quinn currently ranks third in the Ivy League with 102 kills.
*Freshman Ariana Wiltjer put together a breakout performance against Villanova, hitting a red-hot .750 with a career-best six kills.
*Michelle Pereira continues to lead the Ancient Eight in digs (166), adding 41 to her season total last weekend. She also ranks third in the Ivy League with 14 services. The Quakers as a team lead the Ancient Eight in both total service aces (60) and aces per set.
Scouting the Blue
*Delaware began the season with four straight wins, but has since cooled off to a mark of 6-6. Most recently, the Blue Hens went 2-1 at their home Invitational this past weekend—notching wins over Miami (Fla.) and Duquesne.
*Maria Bellinger has carried the bulk of the Blue Hens’ offense, racking up 113 kills, which is 33 more than any other Delaware hitter. She has reached double-figure kills in five games, including back-to-back 15-kill efforts this past weekend.
*Alexa Swann ranks third in the CAA in total blocks (48.0) and fourth in blocks per set (1.12). In addition, Swann ranks second on the team with 80 kills.
Last Season’s Matchup
*Delaware got the best of Penn last season at The Palestra, snagging a 3-1 road victory. The Blue Hens were led by the duo of Alexa Swann and Autumn Jenkins, who combined for 27 kills with just two errors. Swann also posted eight block assists and one block solo. Emmy Friedler registered a team-high 20 digs for the Quakers.
*Penn and Delaware have met on the volleyball court 26 times, which is the most meetings for Penn against a non-Ivy or non-Big 5 opponent. The Blue Hens hold a 15-11 edge in the series, and have won the past two matchups. The last time Penn defeated Delaware on the road was a 3-2 win in 2012.
*The Quakers will begin play in the Ancient Eight on Saturday night against Princeton in The Palestra. The Red and Blue are 249-120 all-time in the Ivy League, and have opened conference play against the Tigers each of the last 15 seasons.
