PHILADELPHIA -Head Coach Kerry Carr has now finalized her recruiting class for next season, bringing Alexis Genske of Pasadena, Calif. into the fold for the Class of 2016. Genske, a 6-foot-0 outside hitter who played her high school volleyball at Pasadena Poly, was named CIF Player of the Year for Division 3-AA after leading the Panthers to the CIF-Southern Section III-AA finals. In her senior season, she racked up 364 kills along with 68 blocks and 36 aces in 24 matches.
Adding on to her impressive high school numbers, Genske began playing her club volleyball this year with Sports Shack Asics 18-1, one of the top club programs in the country. The team recently qualified for the USA Volleyball Junior Nationals in Columbus, Ohio and will compete there from June 28-July 7.
"We are excited to have Alexis join the Penn Volleyball family," said Carr. "A true team player at heart, she has dominated the outside hitting position at the high school level and is a "go-to" hitter for her national club team. I expect she will be a true competitor on our young team next year, challenging and pushing our team to the next level. I am excited to work with all the incoming freshmen and work them into our team, while keeping the incredible team chemistry the returners have created."
Genske joins an already-loaded recruiting class featuring Ronnie Bither (S/DS), Alex Caldwell (RS/S) and Michellie McDonald-O'Brien (MB) from California, as well as Jasmine DeSilva (OH) from Washington, D.C. Fans can get their first look at the 2012 edition of the Penn Quakers when the Big 5 Tournament is held at The Palestra from August 31-September 1. Philadelphia rivals La Salle, Temple and Villanova round out the field in Penn's season-opening event.
