Philadelphia, Pa. The University of Pennsylvania volleyball team lost to Cornell, 3-1, today. Junior Cara Thomason led the Quakers with 18 kills and 26 digs.
“We came out really strong,” said Head Coach Kerry Carr. “The team blocked really well and improved defensively, but we couldn't execute the offense the way that we needed to.”
The Quakers (9-8, 3-4) won the first game, 32-30, but the Big Red won the next three games, 30-27, 30-25, 30-25 to take the match.
In addition to Thomason's play, junior Michelle Kauffman tallied 13 kills, two service aces and 4.5 total blocks in the effort. Ivy League Rookie of the Week Laura Black continued her excellent play, notching 12 kills, three digs and one total block in the loss.
Sophomore Emily Bishop set a new career-high with 28 kills for Cornell. It was her fourth match in a row in which she reached the 20 kill mark.
The Quakers are next in action on Tuesday, Oct. 26, when they travel to Bucknell for a 5 p.m. match.
