San Diego, Calif. - The University of Pennsylvania volleyball team fell to the No. 23 San Diego 3-0, in thetheUniversity of San Diego Invitational Tournamenton Saturday.
"They were just a much better team," said Head Coach Kerry Carr. "We stayed with them during the first two games, but the end showed their strength."
FreshmanLaura Blackand junior Cara Thomason each had6 kills to pace the Quakers (2-3). TheToreros (6-2),won the first game 30-23.Penn fought back in the second game, trading pointsback and forth with SanDiego, eventually losing 30-25.The Toreros dominated the third game, 30-13 to close out the match. Sophomore Anna Shlimak, sophomore Meredith Damore and Thomason had eight digs apiece and freshman Linda Zhang had17 assists for theRed and Blue. The Quakers had a total of four blocks and six service aces during the match.
San Diegowas led by sophomore Emily Hass, who had 16 kills for the Toreros.
The Quakers are next in action on Saturday, Sept. 17 at5 p.m againstNevada-Renoat the University of San Diego Invitational Tournament.
