LEXINGTON, Ky. --The University of Pennsylvania's volleyball team was honored recently by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) with a 2014-15 Team Academic Award for its work off the court.
The AVCA's Team Academic Awards are presented annually to programs which achieve a cumulative team GPA of 3.30 or higher.
Volleyball teams set a new record during the 2014-15 academic year with 755 teams from all levels of collegiate and high school volleyball earning a Team Academic Award. Six of the eight Ivy League schools were recognized.
Penn was also honored as being one of 24 programs to reach its fundraising goal for the annual Dig Pink program which raises awareness for breast cancer research each fall. The Quakers support the iIde-Out Foundation each year, with all proceeds from a pair of matches benefitting the foundation which awards grants to medical research organizations.
The 2015 season opens for Penn on September 5 in the nation's capital against George Mason and Maryland.
