Volleyball Slips Up Against East Carolina, 3-0

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Playing its third match in less than 24 hours, the University of Pennsylvania volleyball team lost to East Carolina (4-5), 3-0 Saturday evening in the Comfort Suites Invitational. Penn (0-3) fell to the Pirates, 30-22, 30-22 and 30-21.

The Quakers held a 16-11 lead, but saw it slip away on five-consecutive points by East Carolina. The Pirates built a six point lead late to take game one.

East Carolina mounted a 15-8 lead in game two and never looked back. Despite losing the second set, Penn hit .367 thanks to four kills each from Laura Black and Shannon Moody.

Although the Red and Blue lost game three, one highlight was four service aces from four different players.

Linda Zhang, who had 94 assists in three matches this weekend, was named all-tournament team.

Penn travels to the west coast next weekend to take part in the Fullerton Classic at Cal State Fullerton. The Quakers open up with San Diego State Friday, Sept. 15 at 5:30 p.m. (EST).
