The University of Pennsylvania men’s soccer program will celebrate 100 years of excellence, tradition and success in 2004-05. A century of soccer excitement will be celebrated throughout the season culminating with a grand celebration banquet at May honoring the past, present and future of Penn Soccer.
“This is an incredible milestone for Penn Soccer,” Head Coach Rudy Fuller said. “Our current players and coaches are all exceptionally proud to take part in the centennial season. We certainly hope to live up to the standards that so many of our past teams have set.
“This celebration will bring together former players from all generations and serve as a unifying moment in Penn Soccer history. It will be a truly special year and we want to keep all of our alumni informed and involved of the events that will celebrate the centennial. From the alumni event on Homecoming Weekend to the All-Decade/All-Century teams to the our new and improved E-Newsletter to the grand celebration next Spring, we want to honor our alumni and make sure they continue to feel a part of the Penn Soccer Family now and into the future.”
The year-long celebration begins with selecting an All-Decade Team for each of the 10 decades that have encompassed Penn Soccer. Beginning with letterwinners from 1904-1915, you have the ability to choose 10 former players to be nominated for the All-Decade Team via an online poll at www.pennathletics.com. Every three weeks, the list of that decade team will be released and a new decade's worth of former Penn soccer players will be listed. After each decade has a team, the list will expand to 100 representatives from which participants will choose an All-Century team which will then be announced at the banquet.
