Dec. 9, 2003
Sophomore Matt Valenti (Newton, N.J.) is 9-0 on the season after his 10-4 win in overtime on Dec. 5 gave the Quakers their first dual meet win of the season over Wisconsin. Valenti finished the weekend with an 8-5 win over teammate Mike Silengo at the Penn State Open. Valenti is the only member of the team who is undefeated after winning titles at both the Penn State Open and the Keystone Classic at 125.
Freshman Stephanie Colson (Weston, Mass.) broke three Columbia pool records and one Penn program record against Columbia and Harvard last weekend. Colson, who won the 50 free, posted a time of 23.55, breaking the existing Penn record set by Laura Hotaling in 2003 by one-hundredth of a second. In addition to her performance in the 50, Colson swam on both the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay, which set Columbia pool records in times of 1:46.28 and 3:29.3, respectively. She completed the day with three first-place finishes.
