Sophomore Jennifer Fleischer (New Hartford, N.Y.) was named Penn Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 12. Fleischer is becoming a dominant force in the middle for the Penn women's basketball team. The 6'3 center made that statement more evident in her two games this past week. Fleischer grabbed 12 rebounds in the 73-43 victory over Lehigh (Jan. 6), besting her career high by two (10), which she achieved three times prior. She also matched career highs in assists (two) and blocks (three) against the Mountain Hawks.
Fleischer was not through for the week and may not have been satisfied with a single-game high 12 boards, as she went out against Princeton (Jan. 9) and pulled down a baker's dozen (13) against the Tigers in Penn's 65-54 Ivy League opening victory. She finished the game with seven points, one assist and one block.
On the week, Fleischer recorded 25 rebounds, 19 points, four blocks and three assists. She is currently shooting 46.9 percent from the field and is averaging 8.3 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.
