NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Sophomore Scotty Williams had a little tougher time of it Friday at The Course at Yale, shooting a 3-over-par 73 and dropping 16 places in the individual standings at the NCAA East Regional golf tournament. On a day when 24 players shot at or below par, Williams' roundput himin a tiefor 34th overall with seven other golfers heading into Saturday's final round.
East Tennessee State's Rhys Enoch holds the individual lead in the 75-player field; he carded a 68 on Friday and is at 7-under-par 133 through two rounds. That puts him one shot ahead of Penn State's Kevin Foley (67-67--134), and two shots ahead of Texas' Cody Gribble (64-71--135) and Kent State's Kevin Miller (67-68--135).
Williams is ahead of four of the five Columbia players who are also at this regional; only Michael Yiu (69-71--140) is ahead of him, tied for 19th in the field.
On the team side, Texas and Kent State are tied for first place, both at 5-under-par 555 through two rounds. Penn State is third at 560, followed by UCLA (563) and Virginia (565).
Williams will tee off at 9:20 a.m. on Saturday from the No. 10 tee.
