Women's Golf Readies For Navy Fall Invitational to Start Season

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania women's golf team is ready to tee it up for the 2016-17 fall season, as the Quakers head to Annapolis for the Navy Fall Invitational.

The four-year-old event -- formerly called the Chesapeake Bay Invitational -- will be 36 holes, 18 on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. Play will begin with shotgun starts Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and Sunday at 9 a.m. The Naval Academy Golf Club will play at par 72 and measure 6,085 yards for this event.

Penn joins 15 other teams in the field, including fellow Ivy League program Harvard. After that, in addition to the host Midshipmen, the field includes Bucknell, Central Connecticut, The Citadel, Delaware State, Holy Cross, La Salle, Lehigh, Monmouth, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Saint Francis U, Towson and Wagner.

Penn has had success at this event in the past. The Quakers won the team championship a year ago, and in 2014 Isabella Rahm took medalist honors. Now a senior, Rahm will be in the Penn lineup along with classmates Sophia Chen and Erin Lo; sophomore Janet Zhang; and freshman Christina Park. Junior Allison Wong and freshman Yubin Huh will play the tournament as individuals.

We are excited to start our season at Navy this year, returning as defending champs," said Head Coach Mark Anderson, who begins his ninth year at the helm. "We have had some great success here the past two years and I'm looking forward to a strong showing from the team. I'm happy that we will have both of our freshman competing at this event as it will be great for them to get their first tournament experience as Quakers."
