The University of Pennsylvania women’s rowing program invites all undergraduate Penn women to attend an information meeting about joining the team as a walk-on. This meeting will take place on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Nash Indoor Rowing Center which is located in the basement of the Tse Sports Center (formerly Hutchinson Gymnasium). The Tse Sports Center is connected to The Palestra.
Walk-ons have long been an important element of the Penn women’s rowing program. In fact, Susan Francia -- who won Olympic gold as a member of the United States Women’s Eight in 2008 and 2012 -- began her rowing career as a walk-on at Penn. We are looking for young women who are team players, competitive, and have a desire to win.
While no previous rowing experience is required, an athletic background is helpful. Penn women’s rowing is also on the lookout for coxswains, who by intercollegiate rules should weigh around 110 pounds.
