Women's Soccer Nips Yale on Late Sands Goal, 1-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to three matches with a 1-0 win Saturday afternoon at Yale.

With the win, the Quakers improved to 8-3-2 overall, 2-2-1 in Ivy League play. The Bulldogs fell to 5-6-3 overall, 1-3-1 in Ivy play.

Freshman Emily Sands was the goal scorer on Saturday, In the match's 80th minute, she took a short ball from Erica Higa on a corner kick, took a few dribbles, and fired a shot that tucked inside the far post.

That was the difference in a match that saw Penn outshoot Yale by a narrow 13-11 margin. Kitty Qu had five saves in collecting the Quakers' seventh shutout of the season. For Yale, Alyssa Fagel had three stops.

Penn remains on the road through Monday, when the Quakers take on Army West Point. The Red and Blue's final non-conference match will kick off at 5 p.m. Next Saturday, Penn hosts Ivy rival Brown in its final home match of 2016 at 5 p.m.
