Women's Squash Opens Season with Decisive Wins over GW and Virginia

PHILADELPHIA – It was a dominant day inside the Ringe Center for the University of Pennsylvania women’s squash team, as the Quakers dropped just a single match in wins over Virginia and George Washington on Saturday afternoon. Penn begins the season 2-0 for the 15th consecutive season.

The Quakers began the day with a 9-0 victory over George Washington, improving to 10-0 all-time against the Colonials. Penn was dominant from the jump and didn’t allow a single game to the visitors. Amongst the notable performers were freshmen Jessica Davis (No. 4) Lindsay Stanley (No. 8) and Clare Kearns (No. 9), who earned their first career wins with the Red and Blue. Also, Marie Stephan ran her consecutive-win streak to 17 matches in a row dating back to last season.

Penn switched up the lineup slightly in its first-ever matchup with Virginia and the match was moderately more competitive at 8-1. Salah, Alves and Stephan—who won her 18th-straight match—were all victorious at the top of the lineup, while Van Arkel, Attia, Wong, Stanley and Kearns also completed 2-0 afternoons. Virginia notched its lone triumph in the No. 9 position.
