PHILADELPHIA--The Penn women's basketball team struggled to find enough points despite out-rebounding the Explorers in a 56-37 Big 5 loss. It was the final Big 5 game of the season for the Quakers who finished the slate 0-4 and fell to 3-10 on the season. La Salle improved to 8-7 and 1-1 in the Big 5.
Penn's offense was its downfall shooting 15-for-49 in the game and just one player in double-digit scoring. Carrie Biemer registered 11 points and also led the Quakers in rebounds with seven. The Red and Blue came out ahead on the boards with one more (34-33) than La Salle, making it three consecutive games that they have outdone their opponent in that category.
Another positive was the lowered number of turnovers for Penn in the game. As a team, the Quakers committed more than 20 in each of the last four games and 19 in the two prior. Tonight's 14 giveaways was the second lowest of the season.
Carlene Hightower scored 17 points while Melanie Gibbons grabbed nine boards to lead their team in each stat.
The Quakers will host Lehigh Wednesday for their first game at the Palestra in 2008 and also their first at home since Dec. 5, 2007. Game time with the Mountain Hawks is set for 7 p.m.
