Women's Basketball Honored by City Councilman

PHILADELPHIA - Following another outstanding year under the direction of Head Coach Mike McLaughlin, the University of Pennsylvania women’s basketball team received recognition from Philadelphia Councilman David Oh in a special ceremony on Wednesday, April 6th.

Councilman Oh presented the team and coaching staff a citation congratulating the squad on a terrific 2015-16 season which included several high points. The Red and Blue earned the highest seed in program history at No. 10 for the NCAA tournament and the Quakers returned to the Big Dance for the second time in three years. Additionally, the team notched a record 24 wins, including 11 against non-conference opponents, and defeated Princeton on the road to win their second Ivy League title in the last three seasons.

Several Quakers also notched individual accolades including Big 5 Coach of the Year honors for Mike McLaughlin and Big 5 First Team laurels for Sydney Stipanovich and Michelle Nwokedi. McLaughlin, Stipanovich, Nwokedi and Anna Ross were also honored by the Ivy League and were named Coach of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Ivy and Honorable Mention All-Ivy, respectively, for their performances in 2015-16.

Penn will celebrate their season at their annual awards banquet set for Thursday, April 7th.
