Women's Basketball Hosts Big 5 Foe, Villanova

Penn vs. Villanova Game Notes

PHILADELPHIA – The women’s basketball team will square off against Big Five opponent Villanova this Sunday, December 3, in the Palestra. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Quakers (2-2) and Wildcats (3-4) are both 0-1 in the Big Five, as both teams were defeated by La Salle. Historically, the Wildcat’s have dominated the Quakers, however this year the teams are projected to be much more evenly matched.

Both Penn and Villanova are looking to rebound from a rough Wednesday night. Penn was handed a 73-49 decision by Delaware while the Wildcats lost 73-47 to George Washington.

The Wildcats met a similar fate against the Blue Hens with a 68-63 loss in their season opener, Nov. 12.

Penn has turned to senior forward and tri-captain, Monica Naltner, who was already named Ivy League Player of the Week once this season. She is a strong force for the Quakers as their leader in point (82) and rebounds (33) and has had back-to-back 20-points games.

Penn’s other two senior captains—Joey Rhoads and Lauren Pears—have also been sources of leadership and scoring. Rhoads comes into the game averaging 14.3 points per game while Pears is chipping in 10.3 points per game and has a team-high 18 assists in four games.

Villanova has a strong threat in Jackie Adamshick, a senior forward who is averaging 16 points and 9.7 boards per game as well as dishing out 21 assists in seven games. Sophomore Lisa Karcic is another key player for the Wildcats with 13.3 points per game.
