PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women’s basketball team hosted 150 students from the Penn Alexander School on Tuesday at its game against Wagner.
The middle schoolers (grades 6-8) experienced all the amenities that The Palestra has to offer, including watching the Quakers earn a 78-50 victory over the Seahawks. The students enjoyed tickets behind the Quaker bench, a pizza lunch, recognition on The Palestra big board, and an autograph session with the team after the game.
“The kids really appreciated taking in a game at The Palestra,” said Julie Mikolajewski, a teacher at Penn Alexander. “We were also fortunate enough to have Coach McLaughlin, Coach McCullum and a few of the players visit our school prior to the game on Tuesday. Coach Mike instilled an important message to our students - reminding them that passion is integral to success, and that if one can find their passion in life and exhibit the qualities of loyalty, time management, teamwork and hard work he or she will succeed. For some of the kids (and teachers, believe it or not), it was their first trip to The Palestra. We hope to be back to take in a game again next year.”
