Women's Basketball Nominated for Wanamaker Award

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania women’s basketball team has been nominated for the 2016 John Wanamaker Athletic Award, presented to the athlete, team or organization which has done the most to reflect credit upon Philadelphia and to the team or sport in which they excel.

Past winners include Chuck Bednarik, Julius Erving, Bernie Parent and Mike Schmidt, among others. The 2015 winner was the Taney Dragons.

The 2015-16 season was another standout year for the Quakers as they captured an Ivy League title and NCAA Tournament berth for the second time in three years. They also broke a school record with 24 total wins, 11 non-conference victories and finished the season with the highest RPI in school history at No. 27. Their No. 10 seed for the NCAA Tournament was also the highest in the history of the program.
