PHILADELPHIA--The Penn women's basketball is set to open its home slate against Manhattanin the nightcap of a men's and women's double-header Saturday at The Palestra.Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Quakers (1-1) take to the court for its second-ever meeting with the Jaspers (1-1). Last season, Penn traveled to Riverdale, N.Y. and mounted a second-half comeback and secured a 61-58 win. The Quakers trailed by five at the half, but drove on a 12-0 run late in the game and hung on for the win.
Through two games this season, junior Carrie Biemer has emerged as the team's top scorer after a career night of 28 points in the season opener. She followed that up with 18 points the next night. Freshman Kim Adams also pitched in that game with 14 points.
Sophomore Sarah Bucar has run the pointand contributed 4.50 assists per game while Maggie Burgess is the team's leading rebounder with six per game.
For Manhattan, last season's leading scorer Caitlin Flood is back and leading the Jaspers again in 2007-08. Gabrielle Cottrell is also averaging double-digits. Both players are shooting around 40-percent, but have gotten to the free throw line more than 10 times. Flood and Cottrell are also the team's leading rebounders averaging 6.5 each.
