Women's Basketball Reveals 2006-07 Slate

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania announced its 2006-07 women’s basketball schedule today. The schedule features 13 home games and a rugged Ivy League slate.

The Quakers tip off the season on the road at Lehigh (Nov. 16) and at Rider (Nov. 19). The home slate starts with a Philadelphia Big 5 game Nov. 21 against La Salle at The Palestra. The game will be a doubleheader with the Penn men’s basketball team taking on Drexel after the women.

Rounding out the Big 5 games, Penn will host Villanova (Dec. 3) and 2005 NCAA Tournament qualifier Temple (Friday, Dec. 29) before visiting St. Joseph’s on Jan. 24.

In other non-league action, Penn will host Delaware (Nov. 29), American (Dec. 10) and Drexel (Dec. 21) at The Palestra. On the road, the Quakers will face Lafayette(Dec. 7) in Easton, Pa. Later in the month, in the last game of the 2006 calendar year, Penn will take on Loyola (Md.) in Baltimore. The teams last met in 1997, but will revisit the series on Dec. 31.Two days later, the Red and Blue makes its longest trip of the season with a visit to Xavier on Jan. 2 in Cincinnati. Xavier is a new opponent in Penn’s women’s basketball history.

The Quakers dive into Ivy League action with a three-game homestand beginning with 2005-06 Ivy tri-champion Princeton on Saturday, Jan. 6. The following weekend, Cornell (Friday, Jan. 12) and Columbia (Saturday, Jan. 13) will enter The Palestra.

After two non-league road games, Penn welcomes 2005-06 Ivy tri-champion Brown (Feb. 2) and Yale (Feb. 3) to The Palestra.

The Quakers will close out the season with seven of nine games on the road. Penn will head to Dartmouth Feb. 9 and Harvard Feb. 10. Next up are Columbia and Cornell on Feb. 16 and Feb. 17, respectively.

Two games at The Palestra—Feb. 23 against Harvard and Feb. 24 against 2006 NCAA Tournament qualifier and Ivy League tri-champion Dartmouth—will close out the month.

Penn will play three more games on the road against Yale (Mar. 2), Brown (Mar. 3) and Princeton (Mar. 6) in another doubleheader, with the Penn men’s basketball team at Princeton later that day.
