PHILADELPHIA - Basketball season officially got underway for the defending Big 5 champions on Tuesday as the University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team held its first practice of the 2015-16 campaign.
"This is a great feeling for all of us to be back together again," head coach Mike McLaughlin said. "We have a lot of work to do, and its not going to be easy, but this is a great group, and I know we are all excited for the journey that is ahead."
The Red and Blue have nine returning letterwinners and three returning starters from a team that claimed the program's first-ever Big 5 title last year, and reached the postseason for the third straight season (school record). The Quakers were 21-9 last year, including 11-3 in Ivy play, and reached the second round of the WNIT.
Penn also added five freshmen in the Class of 2019, as well as a transfer from Northwestern, Alexis Glasgow. Though Glasgow is unable to play in 2015-16, last year's transfer from Monmouth, Kasey Chambers will be another addition to this season's lineup.
Duke is set to visit The Palestra in the season opener on Nov. 13.
