SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Penn women's rowing team had a tough time Saturday morning, falling in the Orange Challenge Cup race against Northeastern and Syracuse on Onondaga Lake.
Contested in a strong cross head wind on rough water, the Quakers' varsity eight finished in third in 7:37.51, behind Northeastern (7:18.32) and Syracuse (7:32.75).
In the second varsity 8, the Quakers again fell behind into a third-place 7:50.74 behind the Huskies (7:33.10) and the Orange (7:43.96). The novice 8 was the same story, as the Quakers (8:10.34) finished behind Syracuse (7:52.47) and NU (7:58.31), and in the varsity four Penn finished fourth behind three Northeastern crews in 9:22.87.
The Quakers race next on April 15, returning home to the Schuylkill River to host Cornell and Rutgers for the Class of '89 Plate.
