Women's Cross Country Places Eighth at Heps

PRINCETON, N.J. – On Saturday morning, the University of Pennsylvania women’s cross country team took on the Ancient Eight in the Heptagonal Championships, where the Quakers placed eighth on Princeton’s West Windsor Fields. Despite the women dropping two places from last year’s sixth place finish, the pace of the meet was quicker and the Red and Blue’s times dropped.

Through 1500m, Gensib was clocked at 19th and Penn was in fifth with 131 points. By 4700m, the Red and Blue dropped to eighth and were unable to move up. Finishing second for the young squad was sophomore Cleo Whiting, who was the top Quaker last year at Heps. Whiting finished in 33rd, scoring 32 points, with a time of 21:34.9. Right behind was her twin sister Clarissa Whiting, who ran the course in 21:35.3. Junior captain Amy Darlington and sophomore Ashley Montgomery also finished back-to-back. Darlington crossed at 21:51.6, finishing 46, with Montgomery a step behind at 21:51.9. Freshmen Kylene Cochrane and Abby Hong also raced for Penn, completing the course in 21:55.2 and 22:06.1 respectively.
