PHILADELPHIA - The women's cross country team will participate in the Mid-Atlantic Regional on Saturday at 1:15 p.m., hosted by the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore.
The Quakers, ranked 10th in the most recent regional rankings, will have to contend with four nationally-ranked opponents -- #2 Villanova, #7 Georgetown, #13 West Virginia and #22 Penn State - as well as Ivy rival Princeton among the field of 32 teams set to tackle the 6k course.
Penn finished eighth last season out of 29 schools at the Penn State-hosted event. Margaret Diacont, Christine Cohick and Veronica Salcido represent the repeat performers back from a season ago with Diacont's time of 22:08 placing her in 53rd position.
Along with that group, four talented and quickly improving underclassmen, freshmen Ariel Beauregard-Breton and Lauren Kester and sophomores Chelsea Delaney and Kersie Jhabvala, will try to boost the Quakers in their first career Regional appearance.
