Women's Cross Country Second at Iona Meet of Champions

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The women's cross country team continued its strong start to the season, as the Quakers finished second in a field of 23 teams at the Iona Meet of Champions on Saturday morning.

Penn placed second with 62 points, as conference foe Harvard won with 44 points. Wisconsin, Kent State and Malone rounded our the top five.

Freshman Leslie Kovach was the top finisher for the Red and Blue, as she took seventh place overall with a time of 23:16.06.Fellow classmate Laura Bilder was second on the team and tenth overall with a time of 23:19.15.

Also scoring points for Penn was sophomore Laura Steel in 12th (23:27.71), freshman Margaret Diacont in 16th (23:36.40) and Kellee Hand in 17th with a time of 23:48.23.

The Quakers have next weekend off, before running at the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa. on October 2.
